Annually the Peace Light is lit by an Austrian child at the Peace Flame in the birth cave in Bethlehem. From here it is spread all over the world by children. For more than 25 years, just before Christmas, a sea of light, a beacon, has been created from that one small flame that shows us the way to peace in the darkness.
Thousands of scouts from all over the world also pass on the Peace Light to each other in the time before Christmas.
Together they form a chain of light, as a sign of peace and friendship.
Every year, a delegation of Dutch Scouts goes to Austria to receive the Peace Light, after which ambassadors ensure the national distribution of the Peace Light. Among them also representatives of Vredeslicht Brunssum.
On December 21st 2022, several members of Scouting St. Vincentius, Scouting St Franciscus and Brunssum Cub Scout Pack 100 in collaboration with Veterans Brunssum, passed on the light in the pouring rain to all 328 soldiers who have found their final resting place at War Cemetery Brunssum. As a thank you, all the children present received a cup of hot chocolate and a ribbon for their uniform.
