On 10 September 2025, around thirty soldiers from the British Army Headquarters South West paid a special visit to Brunssum.
Together with Mayor Wilma Van der Rijt, they laid a wreath at the British War Cemetery on Heufstraat, in remembrance of the fallen soldiers.
What made this visit especially meaningful was the soldiers’ expressed wish to connect with the citizens of Brunssum, and in particular with the adopters of the war graves. During the meeting, they conveyed their deep appreciation and gratitude for the many years of care and dedication with which the graves have been maintained and commemorated.
The gathering was marked by gratitude, respect, and solidarity – a valuable exchange that highlighted the enduring bond between Brunssum and the United Kingdom.
